Job description


You are a curious engineering expert and passionate about building installations and sustainability. You are service-and customer-oriented and you want to contribute to IKEA culture as a living and strong reality that values the diversity of customers and coworkers.

You have an engineering degree (or equivalent university degree). You have work experience of several years in technical design of building, and you know the local engineering standards, rules and regulations, and understand cost factors. You are innovative and want to find new solutions and you encourage creative ideas and perspectives that add value and supports the IKEA sustainability goals.

You have knowledge in sustainable building performance, including BREEAM and LEED labels, and the evaluation of low-impact building materials. You are good in developing and managing technical risk analysis, and familiar with project management and design tools, and other common Office software.

You are able a team player and will to show leadership and adaptation, you have the ability to synthesize and analyze and present your plans in a clear way. You also understand the importance of stakeholder management even if you also can work independent. You are able to communicate with confidence and clarity in English and French (both written and spoken).


You will be based at the Service office in Plaisir, will work as team member in the Construction team and will report to the Cluster Construction Manager.
As an Engineer you will support the technical/engineering aspects of the construction related activities within the cluster. You are in contact with project managers in FR-BE-NL and with global organization in Sweden.

Your role, in the Real Estate cluster, is to:
• Provide technical know-how based on current Ikea standards and national best practices to deliver real estate solutions
• Evaluate the technical aspects of new constructions processes and monitor developments within engineering.
• Optimize, innovate and develop the best project methods for design-build up interaction, for investment budget and prevention of any gap
• Lead and drive all engineering work into cluster and harmonize implementation and communication of these activities with all internal and external stakeholders, in current key areas of expertise: Structural and architectural design, Fire and risk engineering, HVAC systems and energy model, Electrical systems, LCC & LCA calculations, Technical solutions and innovations for PPP and BREEAM, Design management
• Support Construction Project Managers to:
- Clarify all Ikea requirements, standards and guidelines
- Manage the selection process for external consultants
- Ensure detailed architectural and technical design
- Present and negotiate alternative technical solutions in IKEA projects tender process
- Monitor the quality of design and construction/installation works
• Maintain and update the knowledge and understanding of all regulations, guidelines and initiatives issued by the Real Estate Group; ensure that they are communicated to Construction Project Managers and external partners as required
• Cooperate with the cluster Facility department to develop best practices, obtain feedback and increase the technical knowledge of Facility staff.
• Ensure that commissioning, testing, training and handover of technical and building systems are satisfactory for the cluster Facility staff.

International and national regular travels are required.

The Real Estate department for the Cluster Europe West is responsible for the real estate portfolio in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. The position is located in Plaisir at the headquarters (“service office”) of IKEA France.
