Job description

The first IKEA store in Malaysia northern region, Penang, will open by 1st quarter 2019 and we are now hiring the below position.

To optimise the IKEA shopping experience in your shop and store to secure satisfied customers and increase sales. This is achieved by motivating and inspiring your department team using knowledge of the IKEA product range and services, the local market and IKEA customers. You optimise sales and profitability of the department through following up, conducting analyses and taking actions. You use IKEA tools and the expertise of your team and colleagues to support you. You actively work towards fulfilling the four tasks of the IKEA store:
  • To act as a highly efficient, and staffed sales mechanism
  • To show home furnishing solutions full of inspiring home furnishing ideas
  • To serve as a well-qualified home furnishing specialist
  • To provide a day out for the whole family.

Your tasks will include:
  • To lead a team in developing the IKEA business and respective HFB (Home Furnishing Business).
  • To come up with business action plans for areas responsible for and manage resource effectively.
  • To optimize sales and profitability, by taking ownership of the range and actively promoting the IKEA commercial priorities and volume commitments.
  • To act quickly on commercial opportunities and customer feedback.
  • To keep an active eye on competition, supply and performance analysis.
  • To secure and develop our customer base through effective range presentation and sales steering, thereby ensuring and inspiring and enjoyable shopping experience for all IKEA visitors.
  • Lead and develop a team by providing coaching and regular engagement.

Your knowledge, skills and experience include:
  • At least 5 years of experience in a face-paced retail industry.
  • Strong passion for home furnishing and people’s everyday life at home and rich in IKEA experience and knowledge of our range and products.
  • Self-motivated, analytical and good at implementing commercial strategies, and guiding your team towards sales maximization.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team and actively selling through understanding your customers and their needs.
  • A problem solver and decision maker, good at prioritizing and organizing your work and the work of others efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Strong and effective communication skills.
  • Able to multi-task in the course of working with co-workers of all levels, both within and outside IKEA.
