Job description

We are setting up Range & Product Engineering organisation in Development Center Central Europe (DevC CE) and right now we are looking for a Packaging Solution Engineer. 

As Packaging Solution Engineer you will have important role in co-creation of what IKEA is all about; our product range - our identity. Together with Development Teams in Warsaw and our development partners in the region, you will develop and document smart and attractive packaging solution for IKEA products that will meet our customers on market specific or global level.

Our Development Centre is strategically located close to our many suppliers in the region, catering for development on the factory floor – working through, living, and optimising the IKEA business model.

About the role:

As Packaging Solution Engineer, you are responsible to develop, improve and  document optimal packaging solutions for the whole IKEA value chain.

  • Lead development of customer friendly, total low cost and sustainable packaging solutions for the IKEA range.
  • Apply packaging Design for efficient Manufacturing, Quality, Cost, Assembly, Sustainability  and Logistics in an omni-channel landscape.
  • Manage potential safety and quality risks during the development of the product and the packaging solution.
  • Develop and adjust packaging solution to meet needs and changes in Supply Chain, sales solution or selling pattern, based on input from commercial and supply chain competences.
  • Identify the packaging improvement potentials and give input to Action Plan.
  • Maximizing usage of IKEA Packaging Standards and Shared Solutions
  • Secure that the packaging solution is meeting all packaging requirements
  • Secure the technical packaging documentation at the right quality level through the entire lifecycle according to IKEA Standards and Guideline
  • Test and verify the packaging solution during the development phase according to IKEA packaging requirements
  • Guide and support development partners from a range perspective on packaging solutions.


Packaging Solution Engineer will be part of Range & Product Engineering function in DevC CE, reporting to R&P Engineering Manager DevC CE.  As DevC CE, we are a small organisation with big agenda for IKEA and the many people. We lead product development on behalf of HFB’s, believe in working together with simplicity, speed and quality. Working in DevC CE, your contribution will be visible and impactful across the IKEA value chain.

About you:

To be successful in the role, you have;

  • Passion for creating the best packaging solution for the customer at the right price with the right quality, beautiful design, and focus on sustainability
  • Packaging engineering knowledge (constructions, tolerancing, drawing technique, models, material, production etc)
  • Packaging Material knowledge (Cost drivers, Raw material, Production, Sustainability, and Innovation)
  • Supply Chain knowledge (Cost Drivers, Handling and Storage of Goods, Sales and Distribution Channels)
  • Analytical and creative skills with ability to transfer knowledge, concepts and ideas into packaging solutions in the form of technical documentation.
  • Ability to handle large quantities of information and work with several development teams and product areas in parallel.
  • Strong ability to work in teams and make things happen through involving and engaging people.
  • Good level of relevant IT tools knowledge (Solidworks, Artios CAD or AUTO CAD).
