IKEA Range & Supply has the responsibility to develop, design, produce and supply IKEA retail channels with home furnishing solutions available to the many people. Each year IKEA Range & Supply introduces 2,000 new products in the 424 IKEA stores and other multichannel touchpoints around the world. The total range is almost 10,000 products. So what happens in Älmhult definitely doesn't stay in Älmhult. It reaches practically every corner of the globe.

Marketing & Communication focuses on strategic development of the IKEA product and range marketing and communication, brand building communication as well as communication to the many people inside and outside of IKEA.

The starting point for Corporate Communication in Range & Supply is our business and people. Within Corporate Communication, we define, develop and share long-term brand building communication around how we develop and supply our products and range, to create and reinforce a positive image of IKEA and to strengthen the commercial agenda. We use communication to build understanding, engagement and ambassadorship of where IKEA is heading and why, among co-workers, partners, customers and across the IKEA network. By being proactive and agile, we build trust, strengthen our brand.

Job description

As Media Relations Manager and part of the Corporate Management Team you will proactively contribute in developing the common agenda for Corporate Communications and support the growth of the IKEA business.

The Media Relations and Newsdesk Function secures the development and the delivery of the strategic plan for how PR and Editorial content is included in the overall Marketing & Communication plan for IKEA Range & Supply, as well as a world class risk communication when IKEA is challenged. As the new Media Relations Manager you will lead a team consisting of Newsdesk Leader, Press Officers and Communication Specialists and together you will secure;

  • A strategic long term plan for media relations/PR and editorial content

  • A 24/7 Newsdesk, the one point of entry, to  lead and handle all incoming requests

  • Based in the corporate communication strategy, ensure a PR plan for spokespersons and that Range & Supply has the required content and trained spokespersons to represent IKEA and to communicate identified key areas, connected to the IKEA long-term plan, when IKEA is challenged and when we capture or create opportunities to share our point of view.

In the role as Media Relations Manager, you will be a global key spokesperson for IKEA Range & Supply and you will work closely with other key spokespersons across the IKEA Network. This requires both extensive spokesperson experience as well as strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build and maintain trustful relationships across functions and organisations.


To be successful in this role we believe that you have a deep knowledge about the media landscape and logic and a true passion for creating engaging communication. You have an educational background in strategic communications or equivalent and knowledge and experience of working in the field of media relations including crisis communications and branding in a global context. You know what it takes to be a spokesperson for a global brand.

You demonstrate strong IKEA leadership skills, by using sound judgements to make timely and effective decisions. You have several years of documented management experience with a deep understanding of what it means to work in a complex media landscape and a passion for inspiring, coaching and developing people.

You are fluent in English and it is needless to say that you have an excellent ability to communicate verbally, and in writing in an inspirational way with IKEA tone of voice.

If you have an interest in working both independently and interdependently with communication network and cross functions and you feel stimulated by the mix of strategic thinking as well as taking the lead in specific, urgent escalated situations when IKEA is challenged, then this role could be perfect for you!
