We are now looking for 1 student that wants to write their Master thesis at IKEA of Sweden from January 2022

IKEA wants to look at the existing and emerging legal traceability requirements in selected markets. The project consists of examining the development and status of legislation against illegal logging and associated wood trade across key IKEA markets including China, Japan, Russia, India, Brazil, Canada and compare existing related legislations in the UK, Switzerland and Australia with European Union Timber Regulation.

The outcome of this project would be to present:
•    What legislations in China, Japan, Russia, India, Brazil, and Canada  are being developed / or already in place to address illegal logging and associated wood trade;
•    Key elements of those legislations and expected timelines of development and implementation;
•    Liability of different tiers across the supply chain, including IKEA, under the identified laws;
•    Comparison of existing related legislations in the UK, Switzerland and Australia with the EUTR and the US Lacey Act;
•    Based on the current IKEA forestry due to diligence system and IWAY approach, analyze changes that will be required to meet the corresponding legislative requirements.


Qualification

We are looking for a student located in Sweden, fluent in English and who has an educational background in European / international law/forestry/forest policy, or similar, which is relevant for the assignment. 

Experience participating in research/business projects dealing with forest and natural resource legislation and implementation practice is a plus.  We are looking for someone with the ability to analyze legislative documents, interpretations and evaluate impacts. Passion to sustainability, supply chain development, and forestry is a must.


More Information

This is for a 20-week Master’s thesis.

This project can be done remotely. Face-to-face meetings can be arranged based on the need in Sweden.
